When researching credit contributions of
green building products on a new LEED® project of interest,
it is also important to consider their reuse options and LEED® contributions in future renovations. Tile is one of the few
surface coverings that can be salvaged in a major renovation.
The reuse of tiled walls, floors, and ceilings from previous
building tenants can contribute largely towards the acquisition
of LEED® MR Credit 1.2. In this credit, 1 point can be obtained
if at least 50% (by area) of the completed building involves
the reuse of existing interior nonstructural elements (e.g.,
interior walls, doors, floor coverings and ceiling systems).
